My 30th & Save the Date

So my 30th birthday is fast approaching. What I figured I would do is have a big party like we had for Marc’s 30th. Now, his party was a great time, but the idea of having a party to celebrate “me”, as opposed to organizing a party for someone else… well it’s just not as fun. What I’d thought I’d do was just throw out the day of the party and send out a general invitation to the nearby blog readers and my friends from around the city to show up at our house and eat and visit and play embarrassing group games.  And, I don’t know, maybe we’ll still do that.

There is a church conference going on in Surrey the weekend of my birthday. And Marc and I have not had a night away on our own since February 2007… so I was more than excited when Marc was chosen as a delegate for the conference.  And I was more than excited when I was chosen not to be a delegate.  Because you know what this means? We’re going to have FIVE nights in a hotel. I have the potential to sleep in any of number of those days. There is a mall next to our hotel — and it has The Gap and Old Navy. (And I really am going to have lost some weight by then so I can justify buying some new clothes.) There is a spa in the hotel. We got super cheap plane tickets and the hotel and rental car are booked on aeroplan miles.

I cannot even begin to tell you how much I am looking forward to that extended weekend. The conference ends on Sunday, April 26th, which is my actual birthday. So we booked the flight home for the next day so we can really go out and celebrate that day. I can’t wait. I won’t need a birthday party after that. (Especially since the day after we get home is Olivia’s 2nd birthday.)

But, in the meantime, you all really are invited to our house. We are having a House Concert with Dale Nikkel on Saturday, March 15th. Book that night off and come to our house. Dale’s brother was one of Marc’s treeplanting buddies, and Dale is a really talented musician and puts on a great concert (we saw him a few years ago in Saskatoon). We’re looking forward to it, as we’ve been waiting for this chance since we first saw him in Saskatoon. More info to follow. But try to keep the evening of Saturday, March 15th open. For $10 you’ll get an evening of entertainment, some snacks, and you’ll see my house as clean as it gets! We’d love to have you!

Hmmm…couple of things: the $10 is a suggested donation–we won’t be taking your cash at the door. BUT, I’m sure that you would be happy to make that donation once you get a taste of Dale’s music.

Also, we need to have some idea of who is coming beforehand. There is limited space and we don’t want 100 people showing up unannounced!

    See you then.

Oooooooooh. That trip sounds FAB! I am jealous! (It honestly boggles my mind to imagine myself on a trip like that. I can’t wait to hear all about it so I can live vicariously through you.)

I wish that ‘Surrey’ was Surrey UK. Nevermind.

you’ll have to let us know where you’re staying. We might be headed west around that time too! We have a reunion of sorts April 25.

It is so nice of you to decide to throw a party on my birthday – well a day late, but I’ll overlook that small detail. And yes, I’ll be twice as old as you will be at the end of April. That is the downside of the day. But I would love to come to the party if my family doesn’t have me celebrating too hard at our place.

We should get together when you’re in Surrey! It would be awesome to see you!
