Update
Tuesday, December 1st, 2009It seems very weird to think that a week ago tonight Marc was showering at the pool after the kids’ swimming lesson because we had no water in the trailer and we were all still battling sickness. Then on the weekend we put about 550km on the van driving to various places. And this week we’ve been fighting the mice.
Here is the good news: no mice came in the house last night. We sealed up everything in the master closet. (Marc found several holes in the floor there by the water heater they put in this spring.) He screwed in the board that wasn’t attached between the water heater and our closet. And we made the effort of shutting our sliding closet door which is broken and extremely hard to close. (We live in paradise, have I mentioned this before?)
Tonight we tackle the big closet to see how much of our stuff needs to be thrown out. I’m not looking forward to it. I think it will mostly be Marc who does that job. I have to make soup out of this huge pot of chicken stock that I’ve had in the fridge since Saturday. I need to take the bones off. I hope it’s still good after sitting in the fridge over the weekend. I mean, that’s the whole point of buying those big whole chickens is to get a few meals from the meat and then several meals worth of soup from the rest of it.
But, really, do I feel like chopping vegetables and deboning an animal carcass tonight? No. Not really. I did nothing today. I am so wiped. And this “productive cough” that I have is really not productive at all, because it’s not doing anything, just sitting there making me cough. I have a feeling that if I don’t rest, I’m going to get sick worse than ever. Luke was asking at noon if it was bedtime yet, and the poor boy still had to go through preschool and swimming lessons! Anyway. Better get at what needs to be done so we can rest. Oh, and Friday morning we get the new windows put in! The adventure never stops down here.
(Thank you all, by the way, for your advice and your encouragement. You have no idea how much it’s meant to know people are thinking of us!)
Take the meat off the bones and freeze the stock to deal with later if you need to.
