Mice on the Brain

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

The kids haven’t gotten too worked up over the mice situation. Of course, we’ve tried to put on a brave face in front of them. We’ve shown them what the mouse poop looks like and have told them to tell us if they ever see any and to never, ever touch the poop or any mouse trap they may see.

Madeline brought this picture home from school today:

She’s coloured the cat (obviously), and has added the captions, “Meowy Christmouse!” and then drew in the half-killed mouse saying “I’m not haveing a Merry Christmas”. Nothing escapes that girl, or her cartoon cats, apparently!

  1. That is hilarious!! Good work, Madeline!! :) And I’m happy the kids aren’t freaking out….that would make life much harder, I think….hang in there, Dixie!!

  2. Besides the play on words, I’m impressed with Madeline’s two-toned cat! Well done!

  3. Morning Read your blog. Poor Dixie! My frustration is Ricky Racoon but that is another story for a later time.
I know a little about mice and bigger cousins of that family and some suggestions that might be of help. First please do not use warfarin as they might not get outside end up in the walls or roof. There are throw away traps so you don’t get your fingers in the trap. But the best way is to go to a store that sells supplies for farm equipment etc and get a roll of sticky tape and put it is the crawl space and when they are trying to get in or out they will get caught on the tape. I know this works and is the best and fastest way to get them out of your home.
Loved having you here this summer even if it was only for a little while. My love to the kids and Marc ..Aunty Marion

  4. It was so nice to see you, too, Aunty Marion! Next time we will stay longer. :)

  5. Maybe I’m taking my love of animals too far, but I just want to point out that the sticky tape isn’t very humane…the mouse is stuck there and it takes a long time for it to finally die of starvation (unless you want to take a hammer and smash it while it is struggling). The snap traps are much “nicer” in that they snap the little guy’s neck and kill it instantly. I’m such a sap.

  6. Unreal…. I love it.
